Major Transits and Planetary Events in 2013 and Beyond
We are all still getting used to the consciousness raising, reality shifting essence of this new year which started in the wake of a major astrological configuration, the Yod, the Finger of God, which gave way to so much speculation. From fear to elation, we all felt the wake up call of these new transformational times we are called to co-create. And we will all be better for it.
This week we are embarking on a review of the major planetary shifts of 2013. They will give us a valuable tool to understand how the year will unfold. These events will shape us, make us reevaluate and give us a new lease on our lives.
Next week, we will briefly analyse how the planetary configurations this year will affect each sign, in general terms.
Tune it next week for a sign by sign overview of 2013.
Read on to see what’s in store for you and those you love.
Jupiter: Your Luck and Opportunities
Jupiter in Gemini (through July 24): For about half the year, Jupiter in Gemini will energize all forms of communications, learning and travel. This influence can help you express and promote your ideas and verbalize your feelings. Exploring your intellect by taking a class or investigating a new locale is also encouraged. Those of you with a strong emphasis on Air signs (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) or Fire signs(Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) will be especially motivated to expand your mental horizons and versatility.
Jupiter in Cancer (June 25 – July 16, 2014): Whereas Jupiter in Gemini is all about intellect, Jupiter in Cancer will focus on feelings and family. This influence can stretch your emotional comfort zone by illuminating emotional issues that need to be resolved. Investigating your family roots and improving your family relationships can bring satisfaction. You may also get the urge to revamp your home environment so that it reflects your true self. You’ll be especially in-tune with this influence if you have a strong emphasis on Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) or Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn).
Saturn: Your Challenges and Commitments
Saturn in Scorpio (throughout 2013): Starting on October 5, 2012, Saturn in Scorpio began its three-year mission to get us financially grounded, especially concerning debt and shared resources (on personal, national and global levels). Emotionally, it’s time to commit to resolving any self-limiting attitudes/fears you may have about prosperity, security, sex or personal power. Those of you with key placements in Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius) may struggle with some of these issues.
Uranus: The Challenger targetting an Unexpected Life Makeover
Uranus in Aries (through March 6, 2019): During the next six years, Uranus in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac and the "youth of humanity" so to speak, will continue to produce changes and breakthroughs in technology, science and how we view freedom and individuality. You may find it difficult to balance your personal desires with what’s good for your family or community, especially if you have key placements in Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn). Avoiding radical or extreme behaviour may be a challenge for some folks as well.
Uranus square Pluto (May – June; October – November): These crucial periods are when conflicts and changes will intensify, giving new meaning to the adage “Out with the old and in with the new!”
Neptune: Your Spiritual Tune-up
Neptune in Pisces (through January 2026): Neptune, another slow moving generational planet, transiting through its own sign of Pisces continues to empower spiritual oneness, intuition and altruism. This influence can help awaken your compassion and accelerate your spiritual growth, especially through introspection, meditation and dream interpretation. Those of you with an emphasis on Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) may find yourself in a muddle if you’re out of touch with your inner life or pursuing too many activities at once.
Pluto: Your Rebirth
Pluto in Capricorn (through 2023): The planet of transformation in the sign of business, government and commitment will continue to break down outmoded policies and structures. On a personal level, this influence may prompt you to revise or release a goal or commitment, particularly if you have multiple placements in Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn).
Retrogrades in 2013
Retrograde planets focus on the past and turn us inward. As such, retrograde periods are a great time to review/revise your plans and projects. Conversely, they can hinder the launch of something new you’re embarking on. As described below, each retrograde can affect you in a unique way.
Retrograde Mercury: Analyze, Review but do not act
February 23 – March 17; June 26 – July 20 and October 21 – November 10
Watch out for glitches in communications and travel arrangements. If you need to sign an agreement or legal document, be sure to read the fine print and follow up on the matter to be sure it gets to its final destination as expected. On the upside, retrograde Mercury encourages you to complete unfinished projects that you’ve put aside.
Retrograde Jupiter: Explore your inner world with your heart not your mind:)
October 4, 2012 – January 30, 2013 and November 6/7, 2013 – March 6, 2014
Starting a business during retrograde Jupiter can make it difficult to receive compensation, unless it’s a charitable endeavor. On the upside, this influence encourages you to expand your spirituality or intellect through introspective activities such as journaling, analyzing your religious beliefs, joining a book club or researching a subject you’re interested in. It’s also a good time to review your personal integrity.
Retrograde Saturn: Strengthen what was achieved rather than start from the ground up
February 18 – July 7/8
The mission of retrograde Saturn is to strengthen your foundation by slowing down the progress of your material life until you’ve reviewed your goals and commitments. This influence can reveal a self-limiting attitude or fear that needs to be resolved so you can move forward.
Retrograde Uranus: Awaken your vision to what the world you belong to actually is and then...BECOME active part of it
July 17 – December 17
Although retrograde Uranus can stymie innovation, it encourages a review of how you express your personal freedom, originality and individuality. It favors activities that awaken your personal growth and global awareness.
Retrograde Neptune: Attune
June 7 – November 13
This influence can inspire you to seek guidance from your inner voice/Source, especially if you feel confused, overly needy or victimized. If you’ve been focused mainly on your material life, you may feel adrift during retrograde Neptune until you get reacquainted with your spiritual life.
Retrograde Pluto: Purge
April 12 – September 20
As the planet of healing, transformation and elimination, retrograde Pluto urges you to heal your “dark side,” which may reveal itself as jealousy, anger, resentment or powerlessness—or some other emotional wound. This can be done through inner work that helps you release negative feelings, attitudes, habits, beliefs or relationships
As you can see from this brief explanation, the year ahead is more spiritually driven, prompting us to turn our gaze to our inner patterns, evaluate our place in the world and expanding our vision beyond what affects each and every one of us individually. Narrow individualistic attitudes are out, broad overview is in.
That is it for this week. Look forward to next week's sign by sign overview of the year 2013, a year of thoughtful grow and evolution.
